I once ordered from here online when I first moved to Oakland and thought all the donuts I had were great. When I later learned it's only about a mile away my place, I took a walk to this shop to try it in-person. It was a little confusing at first for the donuts to be tucked away in a convenience store, but when I asked the clerk for some donuts he was really nice and got me helped right away. This most recent time I just ordered the apple fritter and a maple bar. The donuts were really big and I thought it was very fairly priced. Also this was at around 10pm, and I was surprised at how fresh the donuts still tasted. If you're looking for a late night snack, this place definitely hits the spot and I'd highly recommend it. Sure there might be better donut places elsewhere, but I really liked the convenience and no frills of this place, and its great that they're open late.

Very Very stressful store over charge for items the clerks are rude cause Anxiety to shop there

We showed up at Hometown Donuts around midnight for their Too Good to Go deals. Pleasantly surprised to report that the donuts actually tasted fresh and airy! Maybe they just came out of the oven that evening? I'm just a little confused by the low ratings here.

Convenient to Bart and a place that seems to have everything. Well run and very clean and organized. Great helper here. The donut shop is within a convenience store. This is the place where you would stop in before you hop on to Bart or maybe you might find yourself stumbling in at midnight in search for a place with donuts. I found myself here late one night window shopping for some donuts. Since it was late lots was already gone but I found one jelly filled. Perhaps a tad expensive but it tasted unusually fresh for the time of day. The donut itself had the perfect amount of heft to it. I'm not the biggest fan of gummy mushy Krispy Kreme type donuts and this wasn't that at all. This shop reminds me of what you find in New York on every corner. Chicken, donuts - and I bet very good coffee.

New owners as of June 2019...Hometown Donuts, Liquor and Food no longer sells Chinese food but Krispy Krunchy Chicken..what a combo! Not complaining as this place will satisfy the sweet and savory (fry) crave! This review is for their donuts! GLAZED RAISED DONUT - 5/5! = Fluffy, with a slight chew = soft and pillowy = good flavor base with a light sugar glaze Delicious and would say a good indicator for their other donuts APPLE FRITTER - 4.5/5 = Crunchy/crispy on the outside = Soft but not doughy in the center = slight cinnamon = sugar glaze isn't too cloying Hometown does a wonderful apple fritter with chunks of apple that other places don't offer...I would put this in my Top 5 of Best Donut places in the Bay Area over another in Hayward... Don't expect anything fancy from this place. Located across from Lake Merritt BART station and near Laney College. Overall, 4 stars as they don't have any specialty donuts and could really do really well with just their basic, raised donut with some creativity...*ahem* exotic-flavored glazes or additions like a maple-bacon, s'mores... *** DEAR HOMETOWN DONUTS - Feel free to contact me for any flavor testing! :D

This Donut Shop is a liquor store stocked with drinks, beer & wine, candy, Chinese food, lotto tickets and scratchers in addition to donuts. I'm mainly commenting on the donuts which are spot on, a dozen assorted is still a little under $10. I enjoy most their maple old fashioned but haven't had a bad donut there. They also bake their own croissants, big butter croissants or ones that are stuffed with ham and cheese. With some of their fried stuff, they have these big chicken drumsticks, sometimes heading into work I get a croissant, a chicken drumstick and shred some of the drumstick meat into the croissant for a pretty decent make-shift breakfast sandwich. I work a block away so the main challenge is avoiding having them too often, but it's a good thing that my coworkers help me.
